Regional Resources Centre for Folklife (RRCF)

Project Director : Prof. N. Bhakthavathsala Reddy

With the experience gained in the field, and in the process of reporting the researched material, the School envisages a large scale collection, preservation and dissemination of the folklife material for the benefit of both the Folk and the Researchers. For this purpose, the School planed for a Regional Resources Centre for Folklife (RRCF) wherein the vast material documented from the field could be preserved as source material for retrieval and analysis. Mere collection and storing up of the data without any access to retrieve it would only be beneficial for a publication of a manuscript with certain aims and goals. To use the data for different purposes such as teaching aids, exhibitions, folk festivals, outreach programs, ready references etc., would be possible only when a centre like RRCF is established. And thus Regional Resources Centre for Folklife (RRCF) was proposed in the School of Folk and Tribal Lore.

The RRCF was envisaged in the previous Plan period by seeking the support of philanthropic institutions like the Ford Foundation. The Ford Foundation in tune with the proposal, has sanctioned a grant January 2003.
