Prior to UGC recognition to the University. the UGC Cell was a part in the Administration Section under the control of Deputy Registrar.  The UGC accorded recognition to the University in the year 1990 i.e. during 8^th Plan Period.  Sine then, the UGC Cell has been working independently  under the control of a Co-ordinator, belonging to academic community.  The UGC cell deals with the matters pertaining to UGC and other agencies.  The UGC Cell has been looking after Plan and Non-Plan Grants. 

Plan Grants

8^th Plan Period:(1990-1997):  During 8 th Plan, under development assistance the UGC released Rs.62.00 lakhs   for Books & Journals, Equipment, Faculty Positions etc.  Under this Plan period the University could fill up two faculty positions.  The amount was utilized as per the norms of the UGC.

9^th Plan Period:(1997-2002):  The UGC released RS.1.62 lakhs to University, which was spent towards construction of Buildings, Purchase of Equipment, Books and Journals and for establishment of GYM with a vehicle.

10^th Plan:(2002-2007): The University Grants Commission after the cessation of 9^th Plan has sent an expert committee to the University to assess the requirements of the University and to evaluate the performance of the University.  Basing on the recommendations of the expert committee, the University Grants Commission has sanctioned Rs.243.75 lakhs to the University under different heads.  The UGC during this plan period has released Rs.48.75 lakhs as first installment Grants.  This amount was utilized under the Heads, Equipment, Books and Journals, Others and the utilization certificate was also furnished to UGC.  The UGC as Second Installment released Rs.97.50 lakhs.  Action has been initiated to utilize this amount.

Non-Plan Grants 

The UGc has several schemes  under Non-Plan Grants viz: Un-assigned Grants, Refresher Courses, Major Research Projects, JRF, Research Award, Research Associateships etc.  The UGC releases this amount only after we spend the amounts and furnish the utilization certificates.

Apart from the above, the UGC Cell has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing various proposals and Committee reports as and when required. The UGC will be sending a team for mid-term review of the utilization of the two installments released and basing on that utilization, the UGC may consider increasing the Plan grant. This Second Installment has to be spent before 30 September 2005 and utilization certificates should be submitted. At present, the UGC Cell is taking necessary action to spend this amount on Buildings, Equipment and Others.
